I am a strong proponent of having
a warm, cozy bedroom, particularly during the short, cold
days of winter! Here are a few ideas to help you create
a sanctuary...
- Begin with a 'spring' cleaning. I know, I know
it's the middle of winter! But a room that's truly
clean has a feeling that can't be beat!
- Try moving the television from the room, even if it's
only on a temporary basis, to create a B&B atmosphere.
- Add a thick rug. Try a Flokati for a spectacularly
luxurious feel!
Replace your bedding. The January white sales are
a perfect time to invest in something that will really
make you feel special. If replacing everything is
not in the budget, try a new duvet or even some throw pillows
- anything to make the bed inviting.
- Get rid of the clutter. Hang up your clothes, put
your shoes in the closet, and remove all the small dust-catchers
on the dresser.
Add a chair and a reading lamp. They don't have
to be large, so try fitting them into a cozy corner.
- Make sure there are enough lamps in the room so you never
have to turn on the overhead lights. Bedside lamps
and a lamp on the dresser or by the chair (as long as the
wattage is appropriate) should work nicely.
- And don't forget the candles! Nothing make a room
cozier or more romantic than candlelight!
